  • Ignite Volunteerism

We are excited to share that 2026 has been officially recognized as the International Year of the Volunteer dedicated to celebrating, uplifting, and expanding the impact of volunteers around the world.

This year’s theme, Ignite Volunteerism, is all about sparking passion, inspiring action, and fueling meaningful change in our communities. Volunteers are the flame that keeps our work moving forward, and 2026 is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the power of giving time, skills, and heart.

Throughout the year, we’ll be celebrating the contributions, stories of impact, and opportunities OSCC55+ volunteers have ignited within our community.

    OSCC55+ pledges to:

Celebrate the difference volunteers make every day

Inspire new sparks of community involvement

Ignite Volunteerism and light the way for positive change

A big thank you to OSCC55+ volunteers for being the spark that strengthens our community. We can’t wait to make 2026 a year of connection, purpose, and impact together.

  • Membership Reminders & Winter Pay-As-You-Go Returns!

A big wintery hello to our members and Happy New Year! As we kick off 2026, we’d like to share a few helpful reminders and updates.

Winter Pay as You Go Classes

Pay As You Go classes are back for the winter session! This flexible option is a great way to try new programs without committing to the full session; perfect for travellers or those with busy schedules. View the full listing at www.oscc.ca/payg.

    Parking Passes

Members visiting the John Street Branch are reminded to ensure their parking pass is current and clearly displayed. Oshawa Bylaw Services regularly patrols the lot to help maintain access for seniors. Vehicles without a visible pass may be ticketed. 2026 parking passes are available for pickup at any front desk.

    Membership Card Scanning

Please remember to scan your membership card each time you visit any OSCC55+ branch. Scanners are located at all front desks, with an additional scanner at the rear entrance of the John Street Branch. This information is important for both security and statistical tracking. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Inclement Weather & Program Cancellations

Winter has arrived with some wild weather! While OSCC55+ makes every effort to keep our community centres open, programs are led by independent instructors. In the event of inclement weather, the decision to run or cancel a class rest with the instructor. We recommend calling ahead before heading out.

We are committed to maintaining an inclusive environment free from discrimination, harassment, or aggressive behaviour. OSCC55+ has zero tolerance for violent, threatening, or discriminatory conduct, and may take appropriate action, including denial of access and/or legal action, if policies are violated.

  • Announcing: Pay Your Life Forward Subsidy Fund

It only takes one person, one business, one small gesture to change a senior’s life.

The reality in our community is clear:

    • 1 in 10 seniors in Durham Region experience poverty.

    • More than 18,000 seniors (65+) live alone, nearly 15% of our senior population. Oshawa has among the highest rates of low-income and socially isolated seniors in the region. (Community Lens Report, Community Development Council of Durham, 2020)

We’re introducing a new way to give: the Pay Your Life Forward Subsidy Fund.

Your donation goes directly toward subsidizing memberships, programs, and services for seniors in financial need. Zero administration fees. Full transparency. Real impact.

As the number of older adults grows, so does the need for support. This Giving Tuesday, pay it forward so every older adult can stay active, connected, and supported — regardless of income.

    Because everyone deserves to belong.

    Donating is easy.
