On Friday, March 24, the Oshawa Senior Community Centres 55+ (OSCC55+) held a celebration event to recognize the $27,400 Community Building Fund – Capital stream grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) used to renovate an elevator and washrooms in order to improve accessibility and usability, and encourage more seniors to participate in beneficial programming. Local MPP Jennifer French attended the event, along with OSCC55+ partners and Oshawa Deputy Mayor Bob Chapman, as they congratulated OSCC55+ on the recent upgrades to the John Street Branch.
“I am always impressed by the dedication with which the OSCC55+ serves seniors in our community. Not only do they strive to provide programming that meets the needs of seniors, but they are always looking to break down accessibility barriers,” said Jennifer French, MPP for Oshawa. “These essential upgrades to their elevator and accessible washrooms will ensure that more seniors who need their support are able to get it. Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for recognizing the importance of accessible communities.”
OSCC55+ received the OTF grant in spring 2022, allowing the organization to upgrade the existing elevator by refreshing the look with new stainless steel panels, new flooring, better lightening, fresh paint and upgraded safety measures. In addition, the accessible washroom was upgraded allowing seniors with disabilities the opportunity to a facility that meets their needs.
“We are thrilled with how the upgrades to the elevator and the accessible washroom turned out,” said Sandy Black, OSCC55+ Executive Director. “ I would like to offer our sincere appreciation to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support with this grant.”
OSCC55+ provides programs and services to more than 7,000 seniors annually at five Branches in Oshawa.
