Consider making OSCC55+ your charity of choice!

OSCC55+ answered the call of seniors in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Consider helping OSCC55+ continue the great work of supporting seniors. As a registered charity, OSCC55+ relies on donations and fundraising – your support is greatly appreciated. Visit oscc.ca/donate to make a difference today!

In 2020, we saw the need to keep our membership active and connected from the comfort of their own homes. We introduced online programs and with grant assistance were able to offer programs FREE to all older adults not just members in Durham. Those programs were a great success with more than 13,800 attendances from people across Ontario.

We recognized local seniors were feeling isolated during this time and set out to ensure everyone, especially the most vulnerable felt supported. We started a telephone outreach program and initiated wellness emails to members and anyone who requested check-ins.

We didn’t stop there. It became very clear, many older adults, especially those with compromised immune systems couldn’t get out to get groceries. So, the we put their van fleet to use by delivering groceries weekly. To compliment this service we partnered with a local caterer to provide a frozen meal delivery program that is both nutritious and affordable.

Additional support offered to the community included:

• telephone programs and porch visits to Adult Day Program clients whose caregivers were more than thankful for the ongoing support

• deliveries of wellness packages and activities to shut-ins

• an extensive growth in our online presence with original content here on Facebook, youtube and Instagram weekly and so much more!

Once vaccines became available, our transportation team provided drives to and from vaccine clinics to assist seniors who needed a ride.

Branches are now open and programs are running. Online programs, grocery delivery and frozen meal programs along with telephone check-ins are still occurring as we recognize not everyone is comfortable getting back out in the community just yet.

‘Though physically apart, together we are OSCC STRONG!’
