Oshawa Senior Community Centres 55+ operate as a charitable non-profit organization and rely on funding from a variety of sources. Donations assist us with operations, and future expansion. Donate today!
We are thankful to receive support provincially from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (Seniors Active Living Centres), Ontario Health and municipally from the City of Oshawa. In addition to monetary funding, City of Oshawa provides in-kind use of their Human Resources, Finance, Technology and Purchasing Departments. They also provide program space in community centres to accommodate our Northview, Delpark Homes and Conant Branches.
“It gave me a place that belonged to me. Now that I'm not working and I don't have a place of work to go to this is my place now, I have a place where I can go, meet friends, have lunch and get involved in something that intrigues me. So, it's really added a lot to my life." - Sharon, OSCC55+ member
Subsidized user fees contribute to the sustainable delivery of our programs. Although these fees help to reduce dependence on government funding, we are mindful of raising fees beyond what participants can comfortably afford. Sustainability is a key priority in our strategic plan and annual business plans.
“Thanks so much to you and your staff for helping to fill our time with fun, healthy and interesting programs. I don't know what we would have done without you during the pandemic. (Probably gained more than the 5 pounds I can't seem to shake off)” - Thelma, OSCC55+ Online Programs participant
Simply put – because seniors deserve to live their best lives, and they do that with us. Our programs connect seniors with one another via physical activity, hobbies, social events and other leisure time pursuits to enjoy together. Thousands of adults aged 55+ who rely on us for programs and services that are a staple in their lives to maintain routine, combat isolation, foster connections with peers and support active living, mental health and overall wellness. We provide seniors with a place to go, and meaningful opportunities to fill their days. Your support ensures that we are able to continue the low-cost ‘drop in' nature of many of our programs so that seniors are able to participate without financial hardship.
“I would like to extend my sincerest thanks and gratitude to you and your wonderful staff. If it had not been for the Seniors' Centre, my father would not have made it. You not only took the time and effort to really get to know my dad, you took the time to and effort to get to know me. Your help and patience with both of us helped to keep us together and helped me to make sure that my father is well cared for. Let me tell you, being the sole caregiver for my parents has not been easy. You and your staff go above and beyond what the job requires. In dealing with agencies and associations that are supposed to help seniors and their caregivers, except for the War Veterans associations, my pleas for help have always fallen on deaf ears. You and your staff listened and I am forever grateful for that.” - Gayle, Caregiver
You can contribute to the OSCC55+ in many ways. Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, teach, advertise, sponsor or become a Business Partner, we appreciate everyone's support to pay their life forward, so future generations of older adults can continue to enjoy the Centres as much those today.
